The rooms are spacious and the bathroom fixtures are clean. There are many tatami rooms, so it's fine even for large groups. The kitchen facilities are well-equipped.

It gets cold when you turn off the heating because of the draft. When you open the curtains facing the street, the inside of the house is completely visible through the glass. The living room lighting is a little dim.

A beautiful little place: The main house, with its tatami mats, rice paper walls, beds and futons, suede sofas, Bauhaus chairs, and, last but not least, the large screen with Netflix, feels like a very successful, cozy blend of a traditional Japanese house and an Alpine chalet, fitting perfectly into the mountainous landscape. Three to four people can comfortably sleep in the beds, and at least three more can sleep on futons distributed across the three bedrooms. When the weather is warm, a lovely courtyard with a garden table invites you to sit outside, and behind it is a spacious one-room house with four beds and a private bathroom. We stayed there in the cool autumn and were kept very comfortably warm thanks to good heating and even heated tatami mats. The kitchen is adequately equipped. No groceries are provided, but there's a very small grocery store and a beverage shop just around the corner. We stocked up on the essentials beforehand in Hakone, which was a good thing, as the few restaurants and cafes in the area were either closed or fully booked. The bus and train stations are just a few minutes away. It was a great stay. One day, we took the Hakone Ropeway from Gora (the bus was too full and wouldn't let us on, but the train ride was no problem) to Lake Ashi and from there a boat to Motohakone. From there, the bus goes almost right to our doorstep (Ohiradai). The next day, we took the train to the Outdoor Museum. Other travelers had the Hakone Free Pass, which seems worthwhile for both the train ride from Tokyo and all activities in Hakone.
