About Zagreb

Zagreb is Croatia's underrated capital — a city of 1 million that most tourists skip in favour of the Dalmatian coast. That's their loss. The Upper Town (Gornji grad) is genuinely beautiful, a medieval tangle of stone streets, churches and towers above the modern lower city.

Zagreb's café culture is exceptional — locals treat the "špica" morning coffee ritual with near-religious seriousness. Hotels are good value compared to Dubrovnik or Split, and the city makes an excellent base for day trips to the Plitvice Lakes and Istrian hill towns.
